Rufo will take you on an epic journey from 1950s rural New Zealand, across the ditch to 40+ years driving road trains in outback Australia, and back again.
Part memoir, part trucking history, Running Down a Dream will also showcase a selection of favourite photos from the author's extensive collection.
Get ready to fasten your seat belt and experience the mishaps and mayhem, hardships and hilarity, people (and penguins), and the trucks – always the trucks – as one boy’s dream becomes the man’s reality.
What a ride!

Rufus Carr delivered his first consignment in 1959. (Mum's garden, Kauri, Whangarei NZ.)
The shiny red rig was custom made for Rufus by his grandfather Harry King, and was the budding truckie's pride and joy.
Fast forward to 2025 and many more shiny rigs have been under Rufo's care in both NZ and Oz, accommodating an obsession in no way diminished by his recent retirement to his homeland.
When not driving for local contractors, Rufo can be found sharing truck photos and information online, travelling NZ with his partner Sylvia, or tinkering with his latest pride and joy, a 1959 Leyland Comet.
